Make your own free party invitations, using
Microsoft
Paint, and any
word processing software that allows you to insert pictures. Basically
the process is to insert an upside-down picture in the upper left of a
document page, a normal picture in the lower left corner, and the
invitation text in the lower right. Then print, and fold the sheet of
paper into fourths.
First
Step for Free Party Invitations
Creat a picture that will cover approximately 1/4 of the printable
portion of a document page.
Select a picture you would like for the front of
the
card, and create an image file in Microsoft Paint.
Shrink
and/or crop the image to a maximum of 350 pizels wide and 500 pixels
tall. Once you have the picture, without text, the way you want it,
save the image. Now, if you need to start over on the next step, you
will not loose the work you have done thus far.
In this example
we are making a Mardi Gras party invitation and chose a picture that is
appropriate. Then we add some text across the top.
To put the words "Mardi Gras
Party" across the top was not as difficult as you might
think.
First, click on "Image"
and make sure "Draw Opaque"
is NOT
checked. If it is
checked, your text will be printed in a white box instead of over the
background. In this example "Draw Opaque" is not checked.
Next
Choose the Text Box option, and draw the text box where you want. Play
around with fonts, font sizes, colors, etc. until you get the effect
and wording you like.
When you have everything the way you want, save it.
Second
Step for Free Party Invitations
Invert
the picture by choosing Image -> Flip and Rotate. Select "Rotate
by
angle", and 180 degrees. This will turn the picture upside down,
without turning the text backwards.
Your finished picture will look something like the
example below. Save it, and close the Paint window.
Assembling your Free Party
Invitations
Open
a word processor document (Microsoft word, Open Office Writer, etc.)
and insert your inverted picture in the upper left corner.
Center the picture horizontally between the left
side,
and the center
of the page. Center the picture vertically between the top, and the
center of the page. This will be the front page of the finished card.
Insert
a picture or text in the bottom left corner of the page. This should be
centered virtically between the center of the page, and the bottom edge
of the page. And, it should be centered horizontally between the left
edge of the page, and the center. This will be the inside, left side of
the finished card.
Finally put information about your party on
the bottom right of the page. This should be centered virtically
between the center of the page, and the bottom edge. And, it should be
centered horizontally between the center, and the left edge of the
page. This will be the inside, right side of the finished card.
Print
your cards on good quality paper. Since you will be folding them in
half twice, it is probably not a good idea to use card stock
paper.
Fold the card in half, top to bottom, with the
blank
side of the paper inside the fold. Once the edges are even, fold and
crease the paper neatly across the fold.
Fold the card in
half, left to right, so the picture is on the outside, and the
invitation text is on the inside. Once the edges are even, fold and
crease the paper neatly across the fold.
Another way to make Free Party Invitations:
If you prefer to only fold one time, make two word processor documents.
The first document will be the front picture. Put a picture on the
right side of the document, and make it right side up. Be sure the
picture does not cross the center of the page. The second document will
be the inside of the card. It will be like the the bottom part of the
instructions above. Put a picture on the left and the invitation
detalis on the right.
To
print your invitation, print the first documnet, the cover picture.
Then re-insert the paper in the printer, so the blank side will be
printed on, and the bottom of the page is the same end as the first
printing. Print the second document on the other side of the
paper.
You should now be able to fold the paper in half and
have your invitation. Try the entire process with one invitation so you
are sure about how to put the paper in the printer. And so you know the
positioning of all components is correct.
