A movie night
theme party is one of the
easiest party themes to prepare for. This unique party theme is a
variation on asking some friends over to watch movies. To make this a
special “Movie Night Theme” here are a few things you can add to
make your event special.
Basic equipment
you will need is the
appropriate movie playing hardware (TV & VCR, etc). The screen
should be large enough for everyone to be able to see comfortably. A
movie to watch would be a fantastic idea. Finally, a place large
enough for all your guests to be seated comfortably. Everything else is
optional and flexible.

- Costumes/attire.
Consider door prizes for the most original costumes.
- Do
Premier Night and have everyone dress like their favorite movie star
- Have a
Directors Gild, where guests dress like movie producers.
- Invite
guests to dress according to the theme of the movie you plan to show
- Decorations
- Many
video rental stores also have movie style popcorn bags and boxes, as
well as other movie style items that will make great decoraions.
- For an
easy centerpiece lay a movie popcorn box on its side, a blank ticket
invitation, or two draped over the edge of the box, and a sprinkle of
crepe paper style confetti around the edges. A few strands of old movie
film 6-8 inches long will also add a really nice touch.
- 3-4
popcorn bags laid out in a fan arrangement, with a sprinkle of confetti
for small tables.
- A few
streamers of crepe paper in doorways.
- Men's
and Women's bathroom signs will point the way, as well as add to the
ambiance.
- Concession
Stand style food/refreshments
- If you
do the Premier Night, or Directors Guild, you might consider champaign,
or carbonated cider. If you don't have champaign glasses, you can get
the plastic ones at the grocery, or party, store.
- Movie night theme food is
easy, since concession stand food is simple. Candy bars, soft drinks,
and popcorn are good refreshment style fair.
- If you
are serving a meal, hot-dogs, chili-dogs, chips and dips will set the
mood.
- Seating
- Of
course seating should be arranged so people will be able to see the
movie.
- If you
have more people than comfortable chairs, consider throw pillows, so
people can make themselves comfortable on the floor. Also, blankets
will help make hardwood floors more comfortable to sit on.
